Dr. Kazunari Sasaki has been appointed clinical professor in the Division of Abdominal Transplantation at Stanford University, effective March 1, 2025.
“Dr. Kazu Sasaki’s promotion to Clinical Professor reflects his outstanding achievements,” said Dr. Marc Melcher, chief of the Division of Abdominal Transplantation. “He has driven liver transplant volume, expanded its applications, and integrated robotics into our practice, while also being a leading outcomes researcher in the field.”
Dr. Sasaki earned his MD from Shiga University of Medical Science in Shiga, Japan. He completed his general surgery residency at Toranomon Hospital in Tokyo, Japan as well as an organ transplantation surgery residency at the National Center for Child Health and Development in Tokyo, Japan. He then pursued an abdominal organ transplant fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Cleveland, Ohio.
Since joining Stanford in 2021, Dr. Sasaki has served as the Director of Population Research in Transplantation in the Division of Abdominal Transplantation. His research, funded by multiple grants, has contributed to advancements in liver transplantation, hepatocellular carcinoma, and transplant oncology, with numerous publications in leading journals. He is an active member of the American Society of Transplant Surgeons, the International Liver Transplantation Society, and the Americas Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association.
