Carlos O. Esquivel, MD, PhD, has been named the 2025 recipient of the International Pediatric Transplant Association (IPTA) Lifetime Achievement Award. The honor recognizes an IPTA member who has made outstanding contributions to the field of pediatric transplantation over the course of their career. Only one award is presented every two years at the association’s Biennial Congress.

Dr. Esquivel is a professor of surgery and a longtime leader in pediatric transplantation at Stanford Medicine, where his work has helped shape clinical practice, research, and multidisciplinary collaboration in the care of pediatric transplant patients.

On receiving the award, Dr. Esquivel shared, “This honor is not just a reflection of my individual contributions. Instead, it represents the collective efforts our team has made to advance pediatric transplantation. Our successes are the result of collaboration, dedication, and shared vision.”

The award was presented at the 2025 IPTA Biennial Congress in September, recognizing Dr. Esquivel’s lasting impact on the field and his dedication to improving outcomes for pediatric transplant patients.
