2025 Oscar Salvatierra Jr. Lectureship Welcomes Dr. Stefan Tullius

December 5, 2025

On December 2, 2025, the Division of Abdominal Transplantation hosted the 20th Annual Oscar Salvatierra Jr. Lectureship at Stanford Medicine. This year’s lecture was delivered by Dr. Stefan Tullius, MD, PhD, Professor of Surgery at Harvard Medical School. He presented “The ‘Graying’ Transplantation Challenge: Older Organs and Older Patients Need Our Attention.” The event took place during Surgery Grand Rounds.

The Oscar Salvatierra Jr. Lectureship in Transplantation was established by Dr. Carlos O. Esquivel to recognize Dr. Oscar Salvatierra’s contributions to the field, particularly in pediatric kidney transplantation. The annual lectureship brings internationally recognized leaders in transplantation to Stanford.

As part of the two-day visit, Dr. Tullius met with faculty across the Division of Abdominal Transplantation and the Departments of Nephrology and Adult Cardiothoracic Surgery. He joined faculty for the Salvatierra Dinner on the evening prior to the lecture. Following the Salvatierra Lecture, the division hosted a breakfast where transplant fellows presented their ongoing work.
