Krams, Martinez Receive $3M NIH Grant

Drs. Sheri Krams and Olivia Martinez have received a new grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The more than $3M will fund their research project “Epstein Barr Virus (EBV) Driven Mechanisms of Post Transplant Lymphoproliferative Disease” over the next five years.

Dr. Pham Appointed Dir. of Living Donor Kidney Transplant Program

Dr. Tom Pham has been appointed Surgical Director of Stanford’s Living Donor Kidney Transplant Program.

    Dr. Melcher Promoted to Professor

    Dr. Marc Melcher has been promoted to Professor, UML in the Division of Abdominal Transplantation effective October 1, 2022. "Dr. Melcher is a nationally and internationally renowned transplant surgeon and recognized as an expert in research using algorithms to assist in clinical decisions, predicting outcomes, and recruiting trainees," said Division Chief Dr. Carlos Esquivel. "He has developed mobile apps, published on the Apple and Google app stores, that make algorithms such as those that determine waiting list priority, assess donor risk, and estimate early graft failure risk more quantifiable."

    Drs. Melcher & Hansen Design "Kidney Jacket"

    Drs. Marc Melcher and Keith Hansen have been awarded two grants to fund the commercialization of their "kidney jacket:" a $100k Stanford-Coulter Translational Research Grant and a $50k Stanford Spectrum MedTech Grant to help bring the innovation to market.
